About the Design

Great hammerhead shark silhouettes fade with distance in a gray sea. (See lighter SL version for

better printing on sport lycra and similar fabrics.)

The great hammerhead (Sphyrna mokarran) is the largest species of hammerhead shark, reaching up to 20 feet (6.1m) in length. They have a characteristic tall, sickle-shaped dorsal fin and a wide head with a nearly straight front margin. Sadly, their large fins have made them attractive to the Asian shark fin soup market and they have been heavily fished. Great hammerheads are listed as endangered on the IUCN Red List and their populations continue to decline globally. These great hammerhead silhouettes were drawn from animals I had the privilege to dive with and photograph at Tiger Beach in the Bahamas on a Jim Abernethy expedition. They are amazing animals and important apex predators. Please support their conservation and do not eat at establishments that sell shark fin soup!
