Simplified airships featuring Spoonflower's "Bedtime" palette. Original illustration by Eleanor Ramsay This illustration is styled after the huge airships of the US Navy that were used to launch early reconnaissance and spy planes during the 1920s and 1930s. Vulnerable to attack and catastrophic failure, airships (dirigibles and zeppelins) were soon replaced by longer-range heavier airplanes.
