skies and happy days!
The Black Witch moth, plentiful here in the Texas Hill country has a lot of different meanings in other cultures, where it is often associated with death or spirits of the dead. However, in Texas, the story is, that should one alight over your doorway...you will win the lottery! These gigantic moths are amazing and mysterious...often mistaken for bats. They were not so abundant in Texas, at one time, but apparently hundreds of them rode across the Gulf of Mexico carried within the eye of eye of Hurricane Claudette. Now, they are quite common here. always fascinating to see them, but because of their large wingspan..6 or 7 inches they can startle you is they suddenly fly up! Everything about them is mysterious.
