This heron lives on the creek. He waits right next to the fishermen on the landing who throw him their undersized catch. He stands sentry on the pier and squawks raucously now and then just on general principles. Then he takes off, and with a few beats of his broad wings, lifts up to the trees. Sometimes he stands motionless in the water for what seems like hours, and then strikes, bringing up his silvery catch.
