I took a gorgeous but faded late 18th-Century woodcut from Japan called "Shinpan shiba sanenzan zoujōji shōmen no zu," brightened it subtly and created a seamless repeat. The red pops joyfully on the people and even the tree trunks, almost creating an aura of fantasy in this scene out of historical Japan. The fade-out forest green remains understated on the trees, as do the dark beiges and especially the cool blue-grays in the temple and on the crowd of pedestrians. I hope you feel, as I do, that the composition of the original drawing is amazing. The bustling elements are constrained with ruthless discipline. Even with all the activity in the foreground, the eye is drawn to the Japanese temple from every point. As a wallpaper, it's probably best suited to accent areas.
