IMPORTANT NOTE: When tailoring this fabric into a waistcoat, ignore any orientation that Spoonflower prints on the edges of the length and instead cut the velvet so that it feels rough when stroked downwards and smooth when stroked upwards. The design as seen in this webpage is inverted to its correct orientation, so that when Spoonflower prints it, the design will be in the correct orientation relative to the velvet’s pile direction. By cutting the material with the velvet “pile-up”, the end result will yield a slightly deeper, richer, and more matte colour. The location of the screen-used waistcoat is unknown, hence this design has been pieced together from the few existent contemporaneous high quality promotional and set photos. One yard of fabric is enough to make one waistcoat with enough left over to make half of another, hence two yards would be enough to make three waistcoats. The rear lining should be wine red. The fabric on the original waistcoat was velvet. Performance Velvet is the best fabric to have this printed on as it is far less shiny than the other one Spoonflower offers. Please note that the design as seen on the website here is inverted, this is because Spoonflower prints their velvet pile-down. The correct orientation is pile-up (so that it feels smooth when stroking upwards and rough when stroking downwards) as this achieves a more matte look. When cutting the fabric for your waistcoat ensure that it is pile-up. The floral waistcoat was used in the following stories: S14 - The Talons of Weng-Chiang S15 - The Invasion of Time S16 - The Ribos Operation S16 - The Pirate Planet S16 - The Stones of Blood S16 - The Androids of Tara S17 - Shada S20/S21 - The Five Doctors This design was updated in May 2022. Improvements from previous version include slight modifications to colour, pattern repeat scale, and flower scale. This is now about as accurate as I can possibly make it without having the original for reference.
