Overview

We're so excited to announce that we're teaming back up with our friends at Bucketfeet for a whole month of challenges in February! Out of respect and celebration of the rich and diverse cultures of Native American peoples, this month's design challenges will be inspired by "Spirit Animals" (also known as power animals or totems) with 4 sub-themes: desert, mountain, rainforest and aquatic. For every design entered into the February challenges, Spoonflower will be donating $1 dollar to NARF, an organization that works to protect Native rights. Bucketfeet will also be donating $1 per pair of shoes (from the winning designs' footwear lines) sold. Each week's challenge winner will receive $250 from Bucketfeet and $200 from Spoonflower, a licensing contract for a run of footwear, and a pair of shoes featuring their design.

Bucketfeet Rainforest Animals Details

From alligators to cuckoo birds, rainforests are rich in biodiversity and home to a multitude of species. It's time to get bright and colorful with your design inspired by animals of the rainforest! Bucketfeet is building a collection of rainforest animal themed footwear to raise awareness of the Native American Rights Fund (NARF). The winning design will be a featured shoe in this summer’s collection release.

  • Bucketfeet will choose one grand-prize winner from the popularly-voted top ten designs.
  • Designs must be original work created for this contest. Designs previously published on the Internet are not eligible for this contest.
  • Designs will be previewed at 150 dpi in a fat-quarter size (21” x 18”) on the voting ballot.
  • Moderation will take place at the close of the contest deadline. Where designs are not clearly related to the Desert theme visually, moderators will use design titles and descriptions to determine adherence to the theme.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who can enter?
This contest is open to ALL Spoonflower community members who are 18 years of age as of January 24, 2017. All submitted designs must be the original work of the entrant. Please do not use stock images or base your design on the work of another artist.
How many designs can I enter?
You can enter only ONE DESIGN in each contest. Designs entered in previous Spoonflower contests are not eligible. Designs already licensed for reproduction on fabric with other companies are not eligible.
Can I share my entry on social media and make it available for sale in the Spoonflower Marketplace before voting opens?
The spirit of the Design Challenge is to give a creative prompt that inspires designers to create a new design that speaks specifically to the theme we have crafted with our brand partners. Spoonflower is seeking an exclusive set of designs, so all designs should be created anew for this Design Challenge. We absolutely encourage sharing your process and finished design on the web and you can make your entry for sale in the Spoonflower Marketplace, but to ensure that your work is eligible for the end product, we ask that it is not an existing design from your portfolio that has been previously made public on Spoonflower or another ecommerce website.
Who will judge the contest?
All designs will be eligible for public voting, and the popular vote determines the top 25 winning designs. The Bucketfeet team will choose the one grand-prize winning design from the popularly-voted top 10.
Who can vote?
Anyone can vote (when voting opens on January 26, 2017), but only one set of votes may be submitted per individual. Email addresses will be collected from voters. Duplicate votes are filtered using fraud detection software and not counted toward final totals.
What if I don't want my design to be purchased by other people?
Designs are not made available for sale without explicit permission from their creators. By participating in this contest, you are granting permission to make your design available to the public for voting and you are granting permission to make your design for sale only if your design finishes in the top 25. The winner will also be expected to work with Bucketfeet to ready their file for shoe production. Any subsequent design work will be negotiated between Bucketfeet and the winning entrant.
Am I giving up the copyright of my design by entering it?
You are not giving up ownership of your design, but by entering your design in the contest, you give us the non-exclusive right, should your design finish in the top 25, to make it available for sale in the Spoonflower Marketplace per the customary terms of the Spoonflower Marketplace. For any sales generated in the Marketplace, you will receive a 10% commission. You will always be credited for your design and you are free to continue to sell it on your own, now and in the future.
What are the terms of the contract with Bucketfeet?
In addition to the $250 cash prize, Bucketfeet will produce a limited-edition run of your artwork on sneakers, on which you will receive $1 per pair sold. If you win this contest, you must create an artist account at Bucketfeet.com.
