Old school medical equipment and procedures, yikes!!! Features trepanation, the drilling of holes into the skull, still used in rare cases but thankfully not to cure mental illness anymore, and the hole is closed afterwards (turns out this last bit was rather crucial!). Also shows a surgeon's table of tools from the 19th century, lots of swords and string...an advert for leeching and cupping supplies, leeches are still used too although they don't cure wickedness apparently. The little frames are pictures of two more procedures and the technology needed, a vintage steambath powered by the patient's own fireplace, and abdominal douching, one of the standard treatments for female hysteria before the (ahem) revolutionary vibrating apparatus......Named after Dr Knox, the Edinburgh surgeon involved in the Burke and Hare case.

uzumakijo says: Just me then haha!! i would love to sit in a doctors waiting room with this design on show....perhaps made into some comfy cushions to soften the ridicuously long wait there always seems to be. Make it much more enjoyable, my kind of amusment factor....great design Claire!

rhondad...

rhondadesigns says: You have compiled an interesting array of outdated and bizarre medical procedures and equipment into a fascinating design! I think this would be popular with medical students but may make patients feel a bit uncomfortable if it was used in a doctor's waiting room!!
