Description:

Boldly decorative dots known as Fred (see below for explanation). Original: chalk on paper. © Su Schaefer 2012

I was going to rename this as 'Boldly decorative dots' but the name just doesn't speak to me so I went back to 'Known as Fred' for this abstract using classic symbols in red and dark blue or navy on white (and referencing Japanese mon).
© Su Schaefer 2012

I can imagine this used sparingly as a statement wallpaper at the larger scale, maybe with matching cushions, or in a smaller scale for scarves or masculine cravats (the blue and red says "nautical" to me), or even as a decorative jacket lining that's meant to be seen.

Original: chalk on paper, Japanese mon stencil; half-drop repeat. My husband convinced me to proof it on silk crepe de chine at a small scale and I do like it at that size - it made a nice long scarf - see pictures above.

[Currently set @ Fabric: 506 ppi (previously 330 ppi), Wallpaper: 187, Decal: 150 (basic repeat), Gift wrap: 276 ppi: scale can be changed on request]

su_g says: Thanks for your great comment on this collection Sheila, and I have taken on board what you say about a larger scale on a wall...

sheila'...

sheila's_corner says: Su, this collection is great! I love this on the scarf, that scale makes it look so classic. But I agree with you, this would really be something to see on a wall in a larger scale.

su_g says: One yard of Crepe de Chine made into a scarf, showing some of the different ways it can be worn (excuse pics, taken in a hurry).

su_g says: Thanks Sue Ellen, I've sewn this into a luxurious scarf and the nice thing is that the pattern shows through quite well on the wrong side which was a bonus! I'm amazed at how much I like this simple pattern.

fireflower

fireflower says: This turned out quite luscious on the crepe de chine! I am envisioning a blouse with a jabot, or a dressy dress with a swishy skirt; a yard-square heard- kerchief ... maybe an ascot/cravat, or, perhaps with stabilizer, it could be a necktie

su_g says: To my eye the base color of the Crepe de Chine looks white, but when selecting a thread, the off-white or very pale cream was a better match than optical white, as you can see for yourself in the close up. (daylight photo)

bippidiiboppidii says: Haha, my Dad used to call me Fred - maybe he couldn't remember my name ;-) Great design Su, very clean and strong, looks great.

su_g says: Your feedback is very much appreciated Emma and Sue Ellen. This is called "Known as Fred" because that's what I name things when I can't think of a name... (always a problem for me, thinking of a name...)

fireflower

fireflower says: I like these decorated dots in clear simple colors, and the circle in a square in a circle of the motif. The yardage shows a very usefully scaled multidirectional design. I am quite fond of the many mon designs. I'm curious, though: why is this one known as "Fred"?
