Hemp leaf pattern pearls on denim blue fabric by su_g on Spoonflower - custom fabric

More about this preview. Help_icon

Pearls in a hemp leaf pattern on soft denim blue, created by the application of dots of oil paint straight from the tube, and then manipulated. The second thumbnail under the preview shows a close up of my test print at a smaller scale (about two thirds of the current size).

Apparently in the old days in Japan there were master artisans who specialized in painting this design on fabric, which is probably why I wanted to try the same thing: it is very much harder than it looks.

Asanoha mon (The Hemp Leaf Pattern)
The mon of the Maru-ni-Asanoha family represents a stylized hemp leaf pattern. According to some, the plant symbolizes the power of growth (hemp being one of the most vigorous annual plants) and probably for this reason, the pattern is often used on babies' kimonos.

Oil on paper, designed for a basic repeat.
