Mudcloth strips with symbolic designs. If the online sources are accurate and I've comprehended them correctly, these panels represent the Spoonflower story.
• The central panel has concentric circles which stand for family and community - in this case the family idea which led to them building the Spoonflower community.
• The panels out from this feature: a chevron cross, representing a cushion pillow and standing for wealth and luxury; triple parallel lines, representing a spindle; and my own addition of some stitching. Spoonflower is quite a luxury product and many people do indeed make cushions! The spindle clearly has something to do with textiles and the stitching is for the sewing element.
• Further out still are the panels with the calabash flowers - which stand for prosperity.
• At the edges are the zig-zags which are supposed to have something to do with an iguana's elbow and stand for good fortune. I'm unclear about the connections for that one but I'm rather partial to such critters, so they got included anyway.
I left out any mention of superior wives, farmers and warriors etc.
