Description:

Far over the Misty Mountains cold, To dungeons deep and caverns old, We must away, ere break of day, To seek our pale enchanted gold

I have just added a linen texture to this design, which I feel really adds depth. However, fabric bought from this point will not match fabric you have previously bought.

Far over the Misty Mountains cold,
To dungeons deep and caverns old,
We must away, ere break of day,
To seek our pale enchanted gold.

This cheater quilt describes Bilbo's journey, from the Shire to the Lonely Mountain and back again.

The quilt tiles both vertically and horizontally. It is a two yard repeat with only slight changes on the second yard - Bilbo is returning to the Shire, rather than leaving. You are looking at the vertically repeating pattern - for the horiztonal repeat, see http://www.spoonflower.com/fabric/1585168.

I put many details from the book into this fabric, so I recommend viewing the Flickr photo at its largest setting so you don't miss anything.

If you are intending to make a project, like a quilt, that requires sewing vertical panels together: the pattern is set to tile properly at the 56" width. If you buy 42" wide cloth, you will get around 1 1/3 horizontal repeats instead of 2. Vertical tiling is handled by Spoonflower.

thesummercountry says: Nadiap, I'm moved that I could be a part of encouraging your son's curiosity! I made the design so I could put my kids to bed (whenever I have kids) with a quilt that would spark an interest in books and adventure.

nadiap says: I really love this. So elusive and yet full of the magic of the book. I may be back for more! For now, this is going on my three year old son's wall (I stapled it to a stretched canvas frame). It has captured his imagination and he keeps pointing out characters and checking their names.

thesummercountry says: Thanks for the kind comments! I'm pretty picky about anything geeky too, so I had to go back and read passages of the book to get the details right (for instance, if you look closely at the treasure, you'll find a lot of individual pieces the book describes)
