This design is imitating the zardosi (Indian goldwork) and beetle wing embroideries as used on Lady Mary Curzon's "Peacock" dress, which was created by the house of Charles Frederick Worth and was commissioned for the Delhi Durbar in 1903, a celebration honoring the coronation of Edward VII. In case you're not familiar with Spoonflower, note that this is just a printed fabric - no matter how realistic it might look, it's not embroidered, just printed. It is, however, an affordable alternative if you like the look, but don't need the delicacy of the original embroideries (let alone the work - a project to re-create the original dress with the embroideries is currently in progress; more information is available here (http://harmanhay.livejournal.com/658697.html)). The design offered here is entirely computer generated - it's not a photo of a part of the original dress; which is one of the reasons why it's repeating seamlessly. Speaking of repeating: The feathers print approximately 8 inches high - a swatch will give you 3 feathers. The design repeat is 10.61 x 13.54 inches on fabric / decals and 12.01 x 15.33 inches on wallpaper. In case you would like to see the details, I recommend looking at the 'Wall decal', then switch the dropdown box to 'Small: 5x5 inches'. That's the closest to zoom in on this design. Also please do look at the swatch photo I posted (and click on it to see the larger version on Flickr!). I recommend ordering this design printed on either Cotton Poplin (matte appearance), Organic Cotton Sateen (slight sheen) or Cotton Silk (shiny like good silk satin; but a little stiffer like dupioni) - those three fabric types print the colors best. In case you would like to order this design at a different scale or in different colors, please don't hesitate to send me a message! I also have some products featuring this design at my Zazzle Store (http://www.zazzle.com/bonniephantasm*)!
