To roughly paraphrase Greek Myth, Persephone, after she was captured by Hades while gathering wildflowers, was forced to remain in the Underworld because she had eaten the seeds of the pomegranate. Demeter, Persephone's mother (as well as Goddess of Agriculture), refused to lose her daughter, therefore, she bargained that Persephone should spend half the year married to Hades, and the other half with her. When mother and daughter were united, the ground was fertile, and when Persephone returned to the underworld, the Earth was cold. This is the origin of the seasons as we know them. I was inspired by this myth of mother & daughter to create this design, which brings together Greek Vases, Pomegranates & Wildflowers.
