Please have a look (as in, click it and look at the larger version of the image on Flickr!) at the fabric swatch photo of this fabric which I posted below to see what the printed fabric actually looks like!
I designed the fabric by carefully analyzing the original embroideries; then I digitized them for my embroidery machine, embroidered one repeat, photographed that repeat and used the photos to design this digital, mock-embroidery fabric.
If you take a look at the 'test swatch' size, you will probably be able to see how the 'mock embroidery' works - it looks like embroidery if printed (including faint shadows of the embroidery and the sheen of the threads!), but of course it's just printed.
Some pictures of a stunning, finished reproduction of the gown using this precise fabric can be found on this page!
The size of the repeat is, as far as can be told from pictures (and knowing that Audrey's height was 5' 7" (1.70 m)), accurate - the embroidery is approximately 29.5 inches (75cm) high and repeats every 10.34 inches (26.5cm).
This design is also available printed on many other products in my Cafepress store!
To make the dress, you need approximately 10-13 yards, depending on your own size - at least one of those yards is used for the bodice (where three repeats of the 'top' part of the embroidery were used).
If you were always wondering how different colors print on the various fabrics that Spoonflower offers, please do have a look at my website where I have quite a few comprehensive photos of color swatches printed on various fabrics!
