I was clearing a path for new internet cable in my attic, and came upon an old trunk, wherein I discovered this drawing (crayon on construction paper) from my schooldays. Since I had, up till then, been uninspired for this contest, I decided to see if I could restore the now-faded color of the paper, and clean up the wrinkles from its having been folded away for 50+ years. Stitching the scans of the 18" square drawing together was an adventure in itself! But I rather like the end result....

fireflower says: Thanks, Jeannie. I was just thinking that I had focused on getting the contest entry in on time, and cleaning up afterward, and I very stupidly (but tidily!) put the original back in the trunk, without taking a picture of it to post! Now I shall have to dig back into that part of the attic again.

fireflower

fireflower says: Thank you, Rachel. I must say, I was/am pleased with my restoration efforts. Then I was glad to see that the purple printed beautifully on the organic cotton sateen :-), so my efforts had not gone to waste. What is that saying? It's so old it's new again?

joanmclemore says: That is a fun story. I had not seen Su's comment when I was gazing over the design and being drawn into the subtle coloration changes that Su mentions. That is great that it turned out to your liking on the sateen. Great vintage hand drawn design!

su_g

su_g says: Sounds like you did really well to reconstruct that and it was worth the effort: it looks gorgeous! Partly it's that it's not over-filled, and partly the subtle changes in coloration, plus that attractively textured white, and then the balancing black. I do really like this!

fireflower says: Thanks, Rhonda. I was a bit surprised to find that I liked the tile design as much now as back when I drew it; so often, one doesn't.
