helenklebesadel says: Thanks! Well, they did mention they were interested in something with a more 'modern' flare. I wasn't thinking about that as I chose what to enter. I can see that the Hollyhocks may have felt more retro than modern to the judges. I do suspect the audience would have liked them anyway. I appreciate your support!

thatswho says: I was just looking at the Hollyhock Spiral and thinking that it surely would have won a place if it had been in. I didn't get to the comments, got sidetracked looking at the terrific doll-house chair. I realize that maybe the judges had some style, or colors they were looking for; in which case the instructions should have been more detailed, I think. If all one has to go by are the collections they already sell, it would seem that your work would really interest them.

helenklebesadel says: I appreciate your disbelief. I did submit my Hollyhock Spiral design http://www.spoonflower.com/fabric/127486 I was very disappointed not to make the cut, but there were another 600 plus designers who were in the same boat. We can congratulate the 100 whose designs drew the attention of the Fabric8 judges and continue to have fun designing. One thing I have learned as an artist and some times curator, judging isn't easy and it reflects the aesthetics of the decision makers. It doesn't really reflect on the quality of the work not chosen other than as an indication it didn't quite fit the judges' vision. That doesn't mean I don't appreciate your shock. It makes me happy that you think my design should have been included. I'm just going to have to find another way to get picked up as a designer by another fabric company, Thanks!

thatswho says: I was shocked not to see one of yours among the semi-finalists in the Fabric8 contest! Were you unable to submit one? I can't be sure, because I was equally astounded to see that Nicole Tamarin's gorgeous piece wasn't chosen. http://www.spoonflower.com/fabric/1133117 I can't understand it, unless they didn't believe that either of you were amateurs!

helenklebesadel says: Thank you bad_penny and thatswho. Until you mentioned it I had not hear about the contest. I've been remiss in entering lately, but you got me to check it out. I will absolutely be entering this one! I appreciate your good wishes.
