Description:

This print represents three major fiction genres: horror, adventure, and fantasy. Each genre is represented twice, with elements over an open book.

This print is a sort of damask (that's what I was going for at least), representing three major fiction genres: horror, adventure, and fantasy. Each genre is represented twice, with elements over an open book.

Horror: ghosts, haunted houses, evil scientists, monsters.

Adventure: pirates, swords, buried treasure, maps, jewels.

Fantasy: magic, wizards, fairies, knights, princesses, true love.

The background is "horror adventure fantasy" written out and repeated. I wrote the words using and manipulating a function in my illustration program. I actually only used two colors for this version, but used two transparent forms of the darker brown, bringing the number of printed colors to four (not including the colors created by overlapped colors). The transparent colors give it dimension and give a feeling that it is all imagined.

A grey scale version of this design can be found in the Books collection.

modgeek says: A detail shot of the print. The transparencies printed wonderfully, and you can see them slightly at the pirate hat.

rhondadesigns says: The symbolic images, sepia tones and lovely layers give this design a fascinating glimpse into the world of the imagination that readers visit when they are lost in the pages of a good book!
