The central image in this design is a white-robed "Kannon" (male version of Quan Yin), Bodhisattva of Compassion, from the first half of the 16th century by Kanō Motonobu. The original is a hanging scroll with ink, color and gold on silk. I have used it as part of this digital collage, combining other visual elements to create a meditative mandala as a combining of many aspects of meditative tradition. Also featured here are Tibetan prayer wheels, a kundalini snake from a Tibetan drawing, script from a sacred manuscript, a Chinese painting of a lotus flower, and a vintage illustration of poppies.
Quan Yin translates as "Observing the Sounds (or Cries) of the World". A Bodhisattva waits outside the gates of Nirvana for all souls to be enlightened before entering fully.
