This design was on the third place on the australian animals fabric of the week contest. January 2013. I spent hours on google trying to find an Australian animal which inspired me. I found photos of a small owl called Boobook,which is the smallest and most common owl in Australia.It has dark brown feathers with spots of white and grey. Its eyes are often bright yellow. I thought it would be nice to make a free interpretation of this owl. It took me more time to develop this design that I expected as the repeat was not easy and I made lots of colour proofs. At the end I added some cairns birdwings butterflies which are well known for its spectacular wing colouration. They are the largest of all Australian butterflies. I am excited about making other colour versions. I hope you like it!
