As an example, here's the render of a same design printed on many different spoonflower fabrics (thanks to kaedra for the image by the way, but it's a good example) http://i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd499/artistkae-sewing/100_1738.jpg I highly recommand people to buy swatches, really :S Sorry for not being able to help more. I wish I could. But I only create the design behind the product you receive. I'm not the "guardian" of the quality unfortunately :/ Once again, all fabrics on spoonflowers are prints (on white fabrics). Blacks may not be as deep as a fabric that would have been tinted or bathed in a black dye :)
This fabric has been ordered hundreds of times and nobody ever complained :/ Sorry again.
Hello kam38, I only see your comment today (I don't know why, I haven't been notified, thanks to a kind client who told me, I can see it today). First of all, I'm really sorr and sad to hear about your story.
Then I'll try to explain some little things: on spoonflower, what you see on the preview is what you get. I can't really help if the scale wasn't the one you wanted :S The scale is visible by everybody. People who are not really happy with the scale I'm proposing generally send me a message and ask me if it's possible to make a personnal scaled fabric. I generally say yes if I've got an opened slot to do so :)
Then, concerning the color, the design has been made in photoshop and is a FULL deep black (#000000) (you can't make a color more black than this). It's possible that dependging of the fabirc you choose, the color is not as deep as a true black. But once again, I can't really help since I'm only the designer, not the person who prints the fabric :S You can buy swatches to be sure the color/scale and all is ok before spending a lot of money in many yards :/. I know that colors are deeper depending of the fabric.
I'm really sad to see that you didn't enjoyed this design, really. I'd love to help :( I think that if the color isn't good at all (because "not really black, ok, but GREY? is a bit weird :S) , you should ask a refund to spoonflower. Maybe they had a problem with their colors / printers? I don't know :( I would have been very angry too. Especially if you had a good swatch. Sorry again, Mary.
@_moonlight_ Hello :D It's been a while since I haven't bought spoonflower's swatches booklet. I'm not really sure they have a transparent fabric. I would have loved to print this with tranparency too :S But I only make the design, spoonflower prints it, I don't know if they are planning to get some fabric like this somday. I know they have coton voile, or crêpe de chine which are quite transparent, but it's not like the original organza you'll see in the movie :'(
