The HMS Beagle was 10 gun brig-sloop of the Royal Navy. She had a life of fifty years, from 1820 with her first launching to 1870 when she was sold and dismantled. The HMS Beagle sailed on three voyages, the second of which is probably the most famous for she carried Charles Darwin, the naturalist. While on board, Darwin kept a diary about the trip and later published it under several names. We in the 21st century are familiar with this diary as "The Voyage of the Beagle." After the HMS Beagle was dismantled, I don't know if the pieces were repurposed or hauled off to the junk yard. Nevertheless, many years later, in a dark corner of a shack was found a round life preserver with the name, "HMS Beagle," printed on it. It was dragged out of the shed by another beagle whose name is Betty (Betty Beagle), and she set out on a voyage of her own, depicted in this design.
