About the Design

Ram Beaux and companions: my very Australian entry in Spoonflower's ‘Ditsy Sheep’ Contest.

Original: Ink pen + watercolor. © Su Schaefer 2015

’Ram Beaux by Su_G' (https://www.spoonflower.com/fabric/3926097): Ram Beaux and companions: see the easy curve of his horn, his soft face, his kindly eye...; Willie Wagtails (companion birds that ride on and snack off sheep), shearing combs, old horns, and loose pieces of fine-micron Merino wool. My very Australian entry in Spoonflower's ‘Ditsy Sheep’ Contest. © Su Schaefer 2015 A celebration of the champion Merino ram, model for George Kruger Gray's Australian shilling design (https://i975.photobucket.com/albums/ae231/octoid/australia1s_zps624eed28.jpg). My inspiration was this description by a former jackaroo of Gray's model ram (https://www.abc.net.au/news/2014-03-19/shilling-ram-book/5330800): "His head was an archetypal Merino head. "The easy curve of his horn, his soft face, the kind eye. "He's a pretty looking sheep for a ram and they don't all look like that." Australian Merino rams are big, and arguably the biggest – although not necessarily the best – is the Big Merino (https://www.bigmerino.com.au/big-merino.html) (aka ‘Rambo’ - inspiration for my title) near Goulburn, New South Wales, which weighs in at 97 tonne and is more than 15 meters (16.5 yards) high. See other designs by Su_G. (https://www.spoonflower.com/profiles/su_g?sort=classic) Original: Ink pen + watercolor on canvas, half-drop repeat. [Currently set @ Fabric: 375 ppi (was 510 for Contest viewing + proofing); Wallpaper: 250 ppi] [ RESET to 375 ppi – from 510 - Oct 2016; Proofed on Fabric @ 510 ppi ]
