The original print for these lupine designs was created by pressing actual Lupine leaves between two pieces of fabric and pounding them with a hammer. It's a Japanese printing technique known as hapa zome (leaf cloth). The fabric is presoaked in a weak copper sulfate solution which acts as a mordant (fixative).
