About the Design

Twenty-four hours before the July 2010 Paper Collage themed fabric of the week contest was due to close I had no intention of entering, no designs up my sleeve, and ever so important laundry to do. I hadn't even considered attempting it as, with nerve and tendon damage as well as arthritis in my hand, sharp things and I really don't get on. However, at the eleventh hour, I decided the laundry could go hang itself; I was going to have a stab at it this collage thing. This design was done purely for my own pleasure. I hummed Donovan's song Happiness Runs for most of the time I was making it. Lately I've been experimenting with non-traditional colourways for nautical designs, my favourite theme. Here's one I haven't played with before. These little boats are trying hard to navigate rocky waters. Sometimes in the spotlight, sometimes in the dark. Mostly they're managing to find their way but occasionally one is going to come a little too close to the rocks. As with life, it isn't all smooth sailing. By Isabella P. © 2010
