A nifty slice of fifties nostalgia from Sacramento California. Anybody wanna buy a shiny new 1958 Edsel from these guys? The "event" the advertisement is referring to was E-Day, the September 4, 1957 introduction of Ford Motor Company's then new mid-scale car marque. (It was never a Ford Edsel any more than Mopar put out Chrysler Dodges. It was a line of its own). Intended to compete with DeSoto from Chrysler, and the Oldsmobile/Pontiac/Buick lines of GM, the Edsel was an idea whose time had passed before it was even born. The compact had just been born and would be infusing life into AMC (with the Rambler) and Studebaker (who later put out the Lark) and Volkswagon, who were just getting their toehold in the US market at the time. So what did FoMoCo offer to the public with as much fanfare as possible? The opposite of those--a really big car. The result is history. And this is a very fifties slice of that history.
