Beamer Motor Company of Sacramento California sold Edsel cars in 1958. But the now iconic Edsel wasn't exactly a hot seller in its day. Ford Motor company had a few fiasco promotions they foisted on their dealerships including a tie in with the Wagon Train TV program that delivered a live pony (or sometimes colt billed as a pony when a true pony could not be found) to every dealer they had. The smell of a pony in an urban auto showroom was alone enough to chase customers away. But Beamer did the Las Vegas vacation promotion all on their own. Admittedly Las Vegas is not all that far from Sacramento (about 400 miles) and exactly what they consider all expense paid does not apear to be defined. Oh, and yes, did we forget that this was also supposed to be selling you a car? Did they sell any as a result of this promotion? I don't know. But it smelled better than having a pony in your showroom. (frame 2495224)
