I've recently moved to a house in the bush with no back doors... unsurprisingly, it's full of an astonishing array of bugs. More crazy crickets than I've ever seen, with antennae longer than I knew existed. It's the dry season here in the Top End of Australia: hot days with cool(ish) evenings, and when I venture into town, there are tourists everywhere. And 'blow-ins' - the folk who blow into town every dry season to soak up the glorious weather (and escape the cold down south) and look for seasonal work. It struck me that the crickets are blow-ins of another kind, cruising in on the dry winds with the smoke from bushfires, looking for a feed and somewhere inviting to generally hang about.
