Description:

Scallop shells in a continuous seaweed diamond border.

Scallop shells in a continuous seaweed diamond border.

Design notes: This was created for a fixed palette contest (see further entries) to produce something new but which "would look at home in a Matisse painting". Matisse painted in a rather primitive way but the styles of his backgrounds and settings came from the oriental and polynesian themes popular in decor at the turn of the century.

Other colours, stylings, sizes and orientations are available on request and you can even ask for a combination of several designs together.

sef

sef says: It could certainly have been either fabric or a wall covering in Matisse's day. It looks quite good on the Spoonflower parcel mockup as giftwrap too - but I think the rest of you can't see that button for this one.

sef

sef says: I think it's very much the sort of thing which was around at the time (while, as stipulated, not simply being a copy of someone else's design!) and which Matisse painted impressionistically into his pictures.

anino says: Love the sea shells as they sit preety in each diamond with swirl trellis.

sef

sef says: So do I. They were nice colours and I thought they deserved something pretty. It's just a shame it's probably the "wrong" interpretation of the brief! :-D
