Description:

Typewriter ribbons and keys in just black and white.

Typewriter ribbons and keys in just black and white. The arrangement of the ribbons (how they flow up and down the page) and the letters on the keys was specifically chosen to make this design bidirectional - for greater utility.

Currently displaying an oversized repeat (for contest purposes), which can easily be scaled down further for printing, with the extended character set (since the original set of just 4 was seen as too limiting). Other colours, stylings, sizes and orientations are available on request and you can even ask for a combination of several designs together. Eg the current file goes up to 24 inches and works down to 8 inches or a little below (perhaps as far as 6 inches, with smaller scale versions of the file already being available for sizes below this). You can even ask for a combination of several designs together.

sef says: NB That sort of thing would be more apparent when scaled down from the overly large contest size (as this file is designed to be able to handle a range of dpi settings before resorting to the separate miniature version!).

sef

sef says: Yes, that near-crossing plaid look was deliberate (same as with the DNA).

victori...

victorialasher says: I also see that with the white going back and forth from figure to ground. If you view it in yard the white also looks almost woven. Very cool design.

sef

sef says: Thankyou. That's what I think too. :-D However, generally around here it would need to be messy, mumsy and/or mark-infringing instead. :-/

candyjoyce says: In my eyes with the addition of just a few extra characters this design has gone from 'good' to 'great'. Best of luck in the contest.

weaving...

weavingmajor says: nice. I like the addition of the other letters. The ribbons make for a great optical illusion - the white keeps trying to decide if it's figure or ground - it's a good, clean, strong graphic design. As for the voters, who can tell - I've never even come close to predicting a set of winners. ;o)

sef

sef says: Well, I'm pleased to see some enthusiasm for this one but, realistically, I expect it to bomb like pretty much everything else I enter. :-D

scifiwritir says: WOW!!! So good! So well-thought-out. I would so wear this.

sef

sef says: I've added a few more characters to make you happy - while still preserving a set of diads for bi-directionality.

sef

sef says: Your other choices (from the normal letters) are H, X and Z - but those don't make as many 2-letter words etc. If someone were to want a version with their name in it instead, I could oblige but it wouldn't have as much symmetry.

sef

sef says: As per the description text, those are among the few letters which allow for bidirectionality of the design.

candyjoyce

candyjoyce says: Great design Sef. One question though, I might be missing something by why just "S" "I" "O" & "N" and not the whole alphabet?
