Anderson, South Carolina is known as "The Electric City." It was "the first city in the south to have an unlimited supply of electric power." In downtown Anderson, a bronze statue with a stopwatch looks up at the lamppost, observing when the electricity would turn on the light. Anderson, South Carolina is also home to Anderson University, established in 1911. Famous for its history in hosting Freedom Weekend Aloft, hot air balloons hover over the Old City Hall building in Anderson. (www.http://www.cityofandersonsc.com/about.html)
