Some of my favorites from childhood. When I was a wee one we used to wonder the neighborhood and the confectionery was about 6 blocks away. Wondering around with my little red wagon, I used to earn empty soda bottles to return for 2 cents each to clear them out of garages and take trash out for people. One day I had enough money for not just a few pennies worth of sugary sweets but 24 cents of mixed candy and a whole big bag of red licorice. I went home and sat under the willow tree and ate the whole bag of red licorice and then my tummy started hurting real bad. I survived but I thought I was dying when all that red sugary licorice had to go. My poor mother had no clue I had eaten candy until I was sick and only saw the red stuff projecting from her little girl. Still have no clue how my mother survived my childhood. From falling into a tub of boiled water at 18 months old to eating a whole bottle of baby asprin at 3 to stuffing shooter peas up my nose at 4 and at 5 I run in the house with what looked much like blood shooting from my head area. Not to mention my tween and teen years. Good Lord, I so lucked out in the kid category. Even after the horror story of the red licorice I still loved my penny candy although not a penny anymore, I still can not pass on a Mary Jane and every so often I just got to have a Chico-stick.
