Entry for the Feathers Contest. In this design I've tried to blend the masculine (eagle feathers in a rigid formation) with the feminine, dancing 'pen' feathers, which indicate the creative and connective arts (e.g. dancing, drawing, letter writing) and form the backbone of the design (behind every great man... etc. etc.). The masculine aspect also references the functional background of the Japanese mon stencils I've been working with, which were derived from the need to identify your own side in battle, to minimise 'accidents' - what we now call 'friendly fire'.
Art pen, chalk & Japanese mon stencil, basic repeat. [300 ppi]
