Long before anybody ever thought to debate gay marriage, there was Fairy Soap in the stores. Their adverting slogan "Have you a little fairy in your home?" apparently did not have any double meanings in 1918 the way it might today.
Though Fairy Soap long ago was discontinued in the United States, it still exists in Europe (now made by Proctor and Gamble). The product itself was originally a competitor to P&G's white, floating, Ivory Soap, and the name Fairy came from the name of the competing company: Fairbank.
