Collection: 1918 ads in color
This artist creates a Cuisinart of abstract mirror designs borrowing bits from Victorian, Edwardian, paisley, and art nouveau. She also draws orphan cars, and adapts a few very old ads. Most of her work is hand drawn with twists, vines & Celtic knots.

"Vaporized Cresolene relieves the paroxysms of Whooping-Cough and Spasmodic Croup at once," begins the copy in this ad under a drawing of a sleeping girl with doll in arms, who has some kind of vapor steaming up from the table in front of her like Aladdin steamed out of a lamp. As for what cresolene is--turns out it is a coal tar derived poison. But don't let that stop you from giving it to your children to breathe over night. If the asthma or diptheria mentioned in the ad don't kill them, you can get a second chance from cresolene vapors. (By clicking on the zoom mode here you can read the rest of this charming ad for yourself). I found it in a 1918 issue of Cosmopolitan magazine and couldn't resist it. Actual fabric colors are a primary school crayon blue and tan. In my monitor the blue looks aqua, but that is not the case.
