Excellent advice there on making the tie - I have looked at tie patterns and found the complexity just too much - and I DO sew, so you have done REALLY well - it looks totally professional.

thanks Rhonda and Pamela! I made it from the cotton sateen, at the recommendation of an excellent seamstress - she says the silk and silk-cotton are both a bit thin for the ties. It was hard to make but I think only because I was SO nervous about goofing it up - I don't consider myself a seamstress - I had to keep washing my hands so I wouldn't sweat on the tie!! I think the next tie will go much more smoothly.
I did cheat the pattern by ironing creases for the edges of the tie rather than slip-stitching the fold lines (my sewing guru said that was ok for cotton sateen) and that made the tie much more manageable and less fearful! Next tie I'm going to use old flannel from bedsheets for the interfacing, rather than buying the commercial stuff - my guru says it has more give so the tie can stretch and bend a little more nicely.
I love it! Was it difficult to make? What fabric?
The tie looks fabulous, Kelly! A perfect gift for someone with a sense of humour and an interest in mathematics! Which fabric did you have the design printed on?
