great take on the theme, lovely!

Thanks, I am super humbled by all you amazing designers and your big hearts. Worked late and didn't get a chance till now to check in, but I'm blown away! As a matter of fact, now I'm kinda glad this happened so I got to see just what an awesome group of folks you are! Wow
love the colours! voted for it in the challenge:)
Stephen just emailed me and said he reinstated it - woo hoo! If you want to vote for it and have already voted, be sure to email him and ask for another vote to be added to her tally! ;o) Hurrah again for Spoonflower - and for good designers!
This is so unfair, I've never seen that before! Such a great design for vegetables! :O
I really love this design for its original take on the theme and the way you have drawn the hog/wild boar is just brilliant. Sorry it wasn't included. I am really rooting for you that it gets reinstated!
Such a lovely design ~ I'm sorry it's not in. Hope you sell heaps of it xxx
Aw! I am so sorry this was disqualified! It is a lovely design - and pretty clearly has elements of the contest theme in it. :( Perhaps you will be able to use it in another contest down the line? Again, I am so very sorry. The disqualification of this design stinks!
I don't think it needs to be full of the contest theme, but I'm guessing it was disqualified because the judges didn't *immediately* see the theme. Sigh. Tracey, if you want I will email SF as well (probably a lot of us will) and beg for it to be reincluded in the contest - this has happened before (before there were moderators) and last time they relented and added the shouldn't-have-been-excluded fabric back in. And will request them to add a vote from me! Only reason I'm asking first is that I suspect, a day into the contest, that you'll have already missed your chance at a win? ;o/ If it were my design I'd rather save it for another contest, because it's excellent and I think it deserves a real chance! But up to you. Let me (and probably many of us) know if we should email on your behalf.
Oh, that's unfair that this was disqualified from the contest! I agree with Tamara that a design does not have to be chock full of the elements of the contest theme.
This is a great take on the theme! How is this not root veggies?! Maybe you can ask them to rethink their decision since everyone else can tell that it definitely fits the theme?
??? Being one of the more stringent applicators of rules when deciding if something meets the theme, I would not have kicked it to the curb. It is a design that makes you think - and then you say "Oh yeah - I get it!" Exactly what gets my vote, btw.
Oh Tracey this is just an amazing design and such a cool take on the root veg theme... I would have voted for it in a heartbeat! Such a shame.
It's very obvious this design took a LOT of time and thought. Please don't get discouraged because I know there will be another contest that this design will "clean up" in! It is extremely creative and I love all the colorways you've created....Funny little story from me: I spend a huge amount of time coming up with a butterfly theme for the contest a few months back. Being new to Spoonflower's contests at the time I finally correctly uploaded my design and excitedly waited, with friends and family, to see myself in the contest and it wasn't there! Broke my heart. Come to find out I uploaded my design but forgot to use the pull-down menu to enter! Ack! Kicked myself. I'm now waiting to enter it in something else so I can show it off...and I always check that stupid pull-down. I'll be watching to see when this does go in a contest. You'll have my vote!
I also don't see this as a fair decision. Does a design have to be choc-a-bloc full of the theme's elements to count? Well, as someone else pointed out, with any luck, another contest will soon come your way where it will be more "acceptable" & you will have even more sunshine shone on your rootin' beasts than this unfortunate issue is already shining on them. Nice design!!!!
Thanks Lynn, Andrea, Cynthia, JShin, Alaina, Isabella, Kelly & Kelly! I sure appreciate all the great support!
Why isn't this in the contest pages? This very obviously has an onion and a radish in the design, root vegetables if ever I've seen them. While it may have a different slant than most, I think it's a bit refreshing and no different than several other entries that had animals and the roots they love as a theme, such as bunnies with carrots. They were allowed in, rightly, and I think that you should have been, too. Perhaps it's not too late?
It's beautiful! I love the colors and the woodcut look - really nice. I think it's on-theme too but it took me maybe three minutes really looking at it to decide that, since the turkeys and boars and trees and birds and hills really star in this show - I guess I can see why it would be excluded, though it shouldn't have been. I wish there was time built in to discuss decisions, fix designs as necessary, etc. because I do wish this could have been in the contest. Lovely, lovely. But now you can enter this in another contest, and there will be something that comes along that fits, I'm sure of it!
This is a brilliant design and totally on theme, Tracey. I'm appalled at the lapse in judgement that led to it being excluded from the contest! I'm sure it would have been a serious contender for the top spot if it had been allowed to compete.
Terrific design and colors!
It's such a shame and a real disappointment when this happens. I had one of these messages last week, my ditsy print wasn't scattered enough! Don't be disheartened though, your designs are fantastic!
So very simple and great color ! I love your animals:D
I like your interpretation of this week's theme. It is original, a great design and certainly on point. I'm guessing they saw the animals and missed your veggies. That is a shame because it is a unique design. One I would have voted on for sure.
I love it. It's a very cool version for roots. It should not have been rejected, there are root vegs in there. I hear you though. I was rejected once and their reasons were totally wrong, but would not accept it. I had the same feeling at you after putting so much work into it. That stinks, there is still time maybe they will put it in.
perhaps they thought they were acorns?? I think your design is more on topic than my submission. I think they just looked at it too quickly and missed the details.
Well, here is the answer to my dilemma. A message by email that reads:
Contest: Root Vegetables
Design: ROOTIN in "MINT & NAVY"
Thank you very much for submitting a design to our Fabric of the Week contest. Unfortunately we have decided not to run your design in this contest for the following reason:
Not really consistent with the root vegetable theme, but would have been perfect for the Woodland creatures contest. Sorry! Regards,
Have you ever gotten one of these letters before? I didn't know there was such an option! Here is my reply:
I have to say I'm a little stunned. I worked REALLY hard on this design! I am so confused. I followed the theme- root vegetables, but tried to make a design that would translate to more than kitchen towels. Humans are not the only creatures who consume root vegetables, as you may know. Is that the problem? I have really had such a great time working with Spoonflower, and have tried very hard to produce entries for your contests, despite the fact that I've never won first place. I value my time, and would in no way have put the amount of effort into this if I thought it would be discarded. Does this happen often? I can't imagine many designers can afford the time to submit quality designs that are randomly discarded.
Please consider my request to rethink your decision and enter my design in this contest.
This is such a wonderful interpretation of the theme of root vegetables! I love the folk art look of the design and see it as being very useable for quilting and craft projects. I went looking for it in the contest line-up and couldn't find it!
Yikes!!!!! Just voted and my design doesn't appear in the line-up! Could it have been banned for vegetable indiscretions?
I love these vegie and animal silhouettes.
Clever and it's just fabulous.
Thanks Carina (please tell us about your new profile shot- you're looking quite astonished) and thanks Cean!
this is a wonderful approach!! love those animals and the colors too! :)
