The four square alternating "checkerboard" is the basic pattern created by every double mirror repeat ever made. You can't always see the four squares as distinctly as you can in this example because distraction elements (hexagons, hearts, sine waves, vines) and size variations in the blocks within the checkerboard, draw your attention away from that pattern. But if you look closely, and know what to look for, you will find it is always in there, exactly the same as it is in this retro sixties geometric block. The part of the sixties that looked like these not quite snow flakes and circles, and bent TV screen style squares are the very early boomerang era of that decade. And these scallops, winged flies, curved edge diamonds, and holly plants have that moderne beatnik era graphic feeling. I drew this back in early 2011, when I was just learning how to make the mirror work. I never set it for sale in 2011, possibly because it was to obvious of an alternating four square, or possibly because I wasn't very good at keeping track of what I had proofed. Either way, I present it for your thumbs up or down in mid 2014 because even though it is an obvious four square plaid, it still looks reasonably good. (file aa012dpos4, #731250)
