I finished the design just in time to enter it into the coffee contest... coincidentally, today is also my parents' 42nd wedding anniversary. For their honeymoon, they went on an ambitious cross-country road trip from New York to California and back. Hopefully this fabric is a little bit reminiscent of that time -- funky hotel signs, blinking neon lights, countless cups of coffee consumed in highway-side diners on hot July afternoons in the late 60s, somewhere in America.
Every one of the 50 states is represented by a coffee cup. I may have been a little over-ambitious with this design, but my oldest daughter says, "wow, mommy, your coffee cups look really REAL!", so I guess it all worked out okay. Happy anniversary, Mom & Dad!

This is way beyond awesome! Absolutely wonderful.
Since it's hard to see detail, I uploaded a couple zoomed-in views of the design on my blog, here: http://jennartdesigns.blogspot.com/2011/07/coffee.html. I just love the California one!

I'll have to ask what route my parents took; all I know is that it was hot (no AC in 1960s cars!) and a looooong drive....!
Wow, wow, wow. This is all kinds of awesome, Jennifer! I'm left-handed and have always noticed how coffee cups with something printed on them are either shown off to the world while a right-handed person drinks from them (which is the the standard intended by manufacturers) or become something to personally stare at for us lefties (which is always fun when you REALLY love a mug you bought!) :D. Great result from an ambitious idea; you've pulled it off perfectly. And with only three colors, lovely! Bravo! Great job and happy anniversary to your folks!!
All 50 states! you are amazing. I would love to use this in a quilt project - lovely design!
Wow! This is awesome. Did your parent take the Lincoln Highway? I've always thought it would be neat to road trip on first transcontinental highway from NY to CA. Wish I could see more detail on the mugs. But from here it's really cool. :)
This is fabulous!
Thank you everyone for all the wonderful comments! So nice to wake up to! Nw that you mention it, I hadn't noticed that all the handles are on the left... I'm 75% right handed (write, draw, hold a fork with the right, use a mouse & tablet with the left). Weird! Wonder why I did that?
Fantastic job you did with three colors! It looks so complicated!
I love this for being very different and cool looking! Great design. I was also wondering if you are left handed?
aw, what an amazing and lovely idea you made here!!! :)
What a lovely pattern! Love all the different cups. So much detail.
☀ Love this ! Great design and colors ! ☀
I love the story behind the design! And from me a WOW! too because they really look real ^_^. Cool design!
Awesome concept, Excellent result!
What a great idea. It's hard to believe it's just three colours, and I love your colour choice.
