All the designs I do somehow come out as fabric designs. They may start as photos, drawings, embroidery, dye-painted fabrics, batiks or virtual batiks, or even typography, but they all lead to fabrics. Often they are Art Nouveau or William Morris inspired

For years I have cut long skirt gores crosswise on the fabric. That allowed me to get more flared gores, and waste almost no fabric. It works fine on even-weave fabric like the linen-cotton 54 wide fabric, which is the size this was designed for. On narrower fabric like the basic combed cotton, the gores will be uneven widths.___This fabric allows you to make a fashionable multi-fabric gored flared long skirt or dress with no waste and without buying several fabrics. Normally directional fabrics like the butterflies and water would cut very inefficiently. Use your own pattern pieces, or just measure the length you want, including seams and hem finish, and measure each gore up from the wide end. If it's for a skirt, you will be cutting off the top of each gore (the narrow end). That fabric can make pockets, waistband. You will have to curve the hem, and, slightly, the waist seam line. Or there is room here for most of us to cut long-dress princess gores out of this.___ 2 yards makes 4 gores, (sewing together the end 1/2 gores). 4 yards makes 8 gores. Each gore will be about 24 inches wide at the bottom. Usually nowadays I would use more gores, (up to twice your waist at the top) and gather, pleat, or elastic the waist down to fit. With flared gores, that is a very flattering cut. But for the young and fit, there is enough flare here to fit at the waist and over the hips for most people. Put the zipper in where you sew together the 1/2 gores, if you are fitting it without elastic.
