Yes, I thought you might have a Merrimeko or IKEA sensibility going on that one! If you do keep it large, I'd definitely tumble the repeat more...

I have liked designing large scale because it gives me "leeway" to have designs be large or small. I think I had the "Merrimeko" style of LARGE in my mind at the time I was fiddling with this one. I decided to try it scaled down by half and "eyeball" that for a bit. (that's the easiest change for the time being). I may even end up using it as a filler for a background to larger scale florals. Some designs sort of sit on the "shelf" for a while and then by some quirk, the perfect place for them arrives down the road (combined with other designs to create a completely different look, for example). Thanks for the careful thinking and commentary on this one!
I agree with you, I'd seriously consider reducing it. Looking at a yard of it, you could scale it down by 1/4 or even 1/3 and it would work well as a large scale calico.
OR, if you want to keep it at the current scale, you might consider adding more flowers and/or adding deeper pinks to the main motif - when you look at it from a full yard of sateen, the tiny flowers pop more than the main motif because they have more pink.
There's also a large amount of plain grey background showing. Rearranging the motifs so they are more tightly interwoven would add some punch. Lastly, you might try tumbling the main flowers more. The main motif is only shown from two angles. if you rearranged everything a bit and added it at a 3rd angle I think you'd be pleased with the result.
Thanks Zoe. I keep trying to decide whether to reduce the scale on these.
This is pretty!
