All the designs I do somehow come out as fabric designs. They may start as photos, drawings, embroidery, dye-painted fabrics, batiks or virtual batiks, or even typography, but they all lead to fabrics. Often they are Art Nouveau or William Morris inspired

I wanted to put butterflies with these flowers, and have it look like a batik. As usual I intended to use the brighter colors of the restricted palette in small areas on the flowers and butterflies, and as usual I found I liked a more restricted palette much better. This design also looks good on the blue background, and the lighter green. I have set the design a little smaller than it was originally. The dark green background didn't print as dark - I could make this available for sale, but want to find a darker color first.

Wow, I made number 11! Thanks everybody! Best I've ever done. This fabric should be available for sale soon; I'm about to order swatches. I'm trying to figure out if I need to redecorate to use it, or if I'll be able to fit it in... Meanwhile, analyzing what makes this work, I have come up with some other colorways that work too.
One of my favorites, and a job well done... so close to top 10!
Thank you, uzumakijo. When I did these flowers before, they somehow looked unfinished. Now I know why; they were lonely. They needed butterflies...
Really beautiful, gorgeous illustrations and a really useable design, I love the way you've used the colours!
Thank you! This is one time when I like the contest-inspired color version better than any of my alternate color attempts.
This has a wonderful 'garden in moonlight' quality!
Wonderful design! Gorgeous!
The delicate detail looks fabulous! The butterflies seem to glimmer with light against the darkness of the background.
This design is beautiful- love it against a green background!
Thanks ravenous, inscribed_here, and simboko. These butterflies have an alternate existence as coordinating fabrics for my collection of virtual antique Japanese fabric-stamp fabrics. That's what I drew them for, and the fine detail fits with the scale of the fabric stamps.
This is beautiful work!
Your delicate, blue butterflies look lovely fluttering among these pretty flowers.
Nice repeat! Love your intricate butterflies.
