Description:

Stars based on the vertices of the hexagon lattice but rotated, logarithmically reduced (in 2 colour gradients) and offset from the centre.

Stars based on the vertices of the hexagon lattice but rotated, logarithmically reduced (in 2 colour gradients) and offset from the centre before being repeated once again. Currently displaying 7" by 12" multicoloured triple version on white. Other colours, stylings, sizes and orientations are available on request and you can even ask for a combination of several designs together.

sef

sef says: My swatch for this one just arrived separately. I had overlooked it somehow when compiling my last batch of proofs. So yay for free swatch day giving me a chance to rectify that oversight. I'm pleased with the way the colour balance came out too - especially since it's necessary to get it a bit wrong on-screen in order to have it right on the fabric.

sef says: Yes, that sort of design does have that effect! It probably won't be quite the same on fabric though. Whereas, with the sort of monitor screen with more persistence (for best colour display) than fast recovery (for gaming/videos), it can look really freaky to scroll quickly up and down on various things.

haleystudio says: Beautiful! The black circle at the middle grows as I stare at it. Trippy!

pennycandy says: L-O-V-E- this! So '60s, very Peter Max-like. Very cool!

sef says: Well perhaps it won't look quite so much like a Eurovision Song Contest entry then. ;-)

sef

sef says: But it doesn't have any kawaii faces on it. ;-)

Actually, in theory, I could very easily have added a smiley face overlay - either to the motif before the mathematical manipulations or as a separately rotated stage. Happy little sparks, pleased to be blown up and burning up in seconds ... perhaps not!

sef

sef says: Oh and I found my photographs gave a very distorted view of how some colours had turned out too! So, no, photographs aren't the answer. They have to be post-processed too much to come close to resembling the real look. With the paisley gnomes I went down the route of uploading a small graphic version of how the colours actually work.

sef

sef says: Initally, of course (in the many weeks before the first lot of swatches finally arrived), I was just uploading the versions which looked good on screen. I strongly suspect many contest entries of being the same way when I see effects that didn't work when I tried them as well as because the "right" colours (printwise) would look very wrong and ruin the appeal of a design. Eg my lime green and rose red look washed out in comparison with the other pairings here but they won't be that way when printed.

mayabella

mayabella says: Very cool design! And I agree with the frustration of the colors. I guess we just need to make sure we have a swatch to photograph with the actual colors. :) I love the stars.

sef

sef says: The annoying thing (as ever) is that the colours I now know should work in print are not the same as the ones which look best on screen.

sef

sef says: Hello there. Single instances (ie non-repeated circular forms) of this design will be quite recognisable to people who are on my card list. It's something of a standard of mine. The question is really whether the wider market also likes it.
