This is my entry in the Crayon Napkin contest and my first completed fabric design. After tinkering around with a zillion “possibly perfect” digital color palettes, it was a relief to be limited to the contents of a crayon box. I started with pictures I had taken of the water lilies in our garden, created a quarter of the design in outline on card stock, and then used Neocolor II crayons from a Swiss company called Caran d’Ache to add layer after layer of color and texture until I was satisfied with the result. My proof copy of the fabric arrived today. It looks just right.
The design is intended to be centered on a fat quarter. It measures 16 by 16 inches and is suitable for use as either a napkin or a pillow front.
