There is a wonderful Russian Folk Tale called Babushka. In the Russian folk tale, Babushka is so busy worrying about cleaning her tiny cottage that she hardly notices the miracles going on around her, but the one thing that she couldn't miss was the loud knocking on her front door!
'Now what?' she grumbled angrily, opening the door. Babushka gasped in amazement. There were three kings at her door. One of the servants with these three knigs said, 'My masters need a place to rest, and yours is the best house in the village.' They stayed and then were on their way to search for the new born King. Why don't you come with us?' asked Balthasar. 'You could bring him a gift like we do. I bring gold, and my colleagues bring spices and perfumes.' But Babushka said there was no time for daydreaming and continued to busy herself with her cleaning. Finally when she went to search for the Kings and the new born baby, she was too late. She was sad that she was too busy and had missed Jesus. The Folk Tale ends the story showing Babushka still looking for the baby and leaving presents next to every baby at Christmas.
There have been many versions of the story of Babushka, and it continues to be a favorite children's story. I have added this design to my Roses, Roses, Roses collection. I have several other fabric design versions of Babushka nesting dolls.
