Description: Fabric design with golden leaves as seen in the 'Phoenix' portrait of Queen Elizabeth I. Fabric design with golden leaves as seen in the 'Phoenix' portrait of Queen Elizabeth I.
Even the size of the leaves should be correct (but that, of course, also depends on your body size!) - I calculated it from the five leaves that run down her arm in the portrait.
In case you're not familiar with Spoonflower; note that this fabric is neither really embroidered, nor does it contain real goldwork. It's a printed fabric (printed with non-metallic inks) of which the design imitates embroidery and goldwork. Just found it safer to mention this ;-)
If you plan to use it for a dress, I do recommend to glue or sew half pearls in between the cordings as seen in the portrait, to add depth to the fabric; but then again, that requires a LOT of pearls.
I do recommend ordering this fabric in either the cotton silk (for a more shiny, satin-like look) or in cotton sateen (for a not-so-shiny look).

This design is also available printed on many other products in my Cafepress store!

If you were always wondering how different colors print on the various fabrics that Spoonflower offers, please do have a look at my website where I have quite a few comprehensive photos of color swatches printed on various fabrics!

su_g says: A real boon for theatre costumers - no need to do the embroidery or sew all the pearls on - and for actors - as any costume made out of this would be lighter and airier. It looks totally convincing in the printed fabric.

andrea11 says: This looks absolutely gorgeous! Did you draw it by hand or make it in a computer program? Both the "embroidery" and the "pearls" look amazingly real. Great job!

bonnie_phantasm says: That's probably true; but imagine how many minions you'd need to embroider all those leaves to the fabric! I guess there were approximately 600 (six hundred!) of them on the entire dress ;-)

su_g says: A fascinating faux fabric! Sounds like a few minions would be needed to sew those pearls!
