zoo animals in graphic black and white
My design was born of a need to get some grown-up (ish) elephant-y fabric in my boys room! Inspired by 'Kito' elephant (born in December 2002 at Colchester Zoo) my sons absolute favourite for so many years. Kito is in the Czech Republic now, but my sons elephant toys are all called Kito (Swahili name meaning jewel or precious child).

This is very groovy, I love how you've got something so complex to be so pleasing on the eye, it works so brilliantly and yet it must have taken absolutely yonks to achieve. Enjoy sewing with it. x
thank you so much Aldea and Sannie! Definitely a fave of mine xxx

truly amazing! I love how you can still see the shapes of the legs and some of the muscles even, for example the leaves in the giraffe's legs. the cushions look fantastic.
thanks so much Patricia, I really appreciate your comment xxx
Love the use of the branches inside the animals. Your sense of anatomy is accurate without being trapped by outlines. Fresh use of pattern.
thank you anastasiia-ku!! :D xxx

Looks fantastic printed!
wow, it really looks very white crispy!!! terrific!!! :)
thanks Isabella! Thanks Rhonda! I'm definitely using this for some cushions... though my son wants a school bag... (white? really Isaac?) I cannot believe how crisp and wonderful this is.... I'm definitely ordering twill again. Fabulous weight quality fabric (for when I'm not patching with it). Wowsers.
This looks fantastic!
I'm very impressed by the clarity of this print on the twill, Sharon! What kind of projects are you planning for it's use?
oh my goodness ~ I got a yard of this on twill in the post today ~ AWESOME! so white, so crisp, beautiful fabric.... a zillion times better than the quilting weight cotton !!! WOW

thanks Drea! So kind of all of you ~ perhaps I should do black and white more often! :) xxx
Wow, like others, I'm super surprised this didn't place higher (though 21 is nothing to scoff at!) - it's truly beautiful and I, too, can't wait to see it printed up!
awww thank you Lucinda xxx
This was one of my favorites. Surprised it wasn't in the top 10. :)
thanks Kelly! I'm looking forward to see it printed up :) xxx
You did great, considering there were so many this week!
same back at you theboerwar! I see we are neighbours in the results! xxx
I'm also shocked this didn't get in the top 10! It was one of few I voted for :D
awww thanks Carina, 21 out of 418 ain't too shabby! yey :) xxx
I thought this one was going to be first... or top ten... but, in such a tough contest with tons of entries, place 21, is heaven, CONGRATS!!!! :) :)

Awww thank you Isabella! :) xxx
This is amazing, Sharon! I love how you've represented the wrinkly elephant skin.
haha ~ thank you Samarra ;) xxx
That's so weird. I was going to say, 'I really like this Mum' too! But since that's taken, I'll say that I love the layering effect the pattern within pattern creates. It's all so lush!
thanks so much Francine ~ yey! So glad you like it :) xxx
Wow this is so - WOW! I love the stars and the leaves and all the patternwork segmented so they look like allegorical versions of organs and tendons. Really evocative
Thanks Sara! And thank you Jasmine :) xxx
I really like this Mum :)
awww thanks! :) xxx
We just saw The Lion King (live stage, not the animated movie) and this reminds me of all the African artistry... except yours is way more intricate!
thanks Kelly! :) xxx
thanks so much Tracey, what a lovely comment! So pleased you like it :) xxx
Stunning! Has the feel of tribal Africa or even Inuit and Northwest Indian art.
thanks Alex! :) xxx
What drama! Great work Scrummy!!
Thank you Anja! I'm thinking of ordering it on linen cotton canvas and making some storage bags for his hanging pegs.... he has enough cushions already :) !! xxx
Your animals look fantastic, Sharon! What do you plan to make for the boys room?
awww thanks Cean ~ yey ~ xxx
amazing! They all have a slightly aboriginal feel to them, which is marvelous. You have one lucky son, getting this brilliant design in his room. I love it!
wow thanks so much Karen! xxx
What a spectacular design. I can almost see the love lines in between each animal design.
Very cool idea,itturned out great!
Thanks so much Barbara, Shin and Patty! It's very strange for me to work in just black and white, so pattern madness seemed the way to go ;) xxx
Gorgeous details Sharon, I love the leaves that resemble skeletal structures!
I thought I had left a comment, but apparently not. I love this design. It's so perfect for a boy, especially for when they are a bit older. Not many designs are!
Fascinating! A bit of skeleton here, a bit of plant-life there, all thoughtfully placed into gorgeous animal shapes. Wonderful!
woah ~ thank you so much Victoria xxx
Wonderful, sophisticated, design.
thank you Cynthia! xxx
wow ~ off I trot to the garden centre.... and I come back to this! Yey! Thank you all so much! Nothing like a bit of spoonflower love to make me smiley xxx
BE-U-TIFUL,Sharon! LOVE it!
this is terrific!!!! I LOVE that elephant, and the way you filled-doodled all them is smart and wonderful :)
great job sharon :)
Absolutely ruddy marvellous Sharon!!! So cool!, love your animal illustrations, especially the tiger ready to pounce, wonderfully done. Love that you filled them with patterns....very funky! I'm not gonna say it's definitely gonna do really well as that seems to be the kiss of death from me.....but thats secretly what i'm thinking!....shhhhh!
This is fantastic Sharon!
awww thanks Rhonda! It was great fun to do. I had in mind the animal skins when doodling but didn't want to make too obvious :) xxx
This is fabulous Sharon! The decorative detail on the animals hints of bones, rippling muscles and skin patterns. The design has the feeling of an amazing dream!
