Being a counselor at a wilderness program for at-risk youth taught me a few things about camping and life in general. Some of those days in the woods were pretty rough, but as long as you had that little flame of the lantern, you could still see the beauty around you and feel the hope that only comes from the bare bones of life.
Inspired by a quote by Henry David Thoreau that means a lot to me (this design was originally made for the poetry contest long ago, so I am happy to finally share it in the camping contest):
"I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived. I did not wish to live what was not life, living is so dear; nor did I wish to practise resignation, unless it was quite necessary. I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life, to live so sturdily and Spartan-like as to put to rout all that was not life, to cut a broad swath and shave close, to drive life into a corner, and reduce it to its lowest terms, and, if it proved to be mean, why then to get the whole and genuine meanness of it, and publish its meanness to the world; or if it were sublime, to know it by experience, and be able to give a true account of it in my next excursion."

Really fabulous design Drea, love that it has so much meaning behind it, such a thoughtful approach! Glad you got to enter it in a contest...camping was made for this great design, LOVE the cushion as well, fab!
Wonderful design, the pillow is gorgeous!
A very dramatic design. Nice to get such a great opportunity to use it.
Your evocative image of a light shining in the darkest of times is very powerful Drea! It works beautifully as a versatile fabric design!
Drea, I love this design! Well done.
Totally original & really inspired design Drea! The pillow looks spectacular!
I love the way you've achieved the tree bark with just the merest well-placed indications. This is so elegant, pared to the beautiful bones, and I think you've hit the Thoreau quote spot on.
Nice to see this elegaic design that is about camping and so much more entered in the Camping Contest. The pillow looks so stylish.
A design I created for the poem contest a while ago...just didn't finish in time:) Better late than never!
