Night sky...disorienting spirals...the full moon...and that raven. One of the first poems I remember from my youth, Edgar Allen Poe's The Raven both thrilled and chilled me as I pictured the red eyed nocturnal visitor on that bleak December night. Rather than take the poem literally and place the raven on the bust of Athena, I immersed myself in Poe's ethereal haze for that December night. Mouth open, red eye gleaming, the raven's harsh cry of "Nevermore!" echoes down the years.
