Hi Rockin'_juke. I think you misunderstood the contest (and general Spoonflower) instructions. You don't need to upload a file containing several repeats to make a fat quarter in size. Have a look at the gap you're leaving on the fabric in the 1 yard view! You just need to upload a single unit cell* (with top and bottom edges and left and right sides matching) for a normal repeat and let the Spoonflower software cover the entire fabric seamlessly.
<br><br>* For patterns which repeat centrally you only need half a cell to go with Spoonflower's half-brick or half-drop repeat methods. And that's down to just a quarter for doubly mirrored patterns.
